You’ve probably heard of a Rolodex — that spinning thing your dad kept on his desk, full of business cards and phone numbers written in all caps.
🌀 It was the original contact manager before smartphones made their debut. But today? This once strictly-business gadget is getting a heartfelt glow-up — and I’m here for it. I’m such a big fan of Rolodex in all it’s forms!
Let’s talk about what a Rolodex really is… and why you might want one again, but this time, for your soul. 💖
So, what is a Rolodex?
A Rolodex (short for rolling index) is a rotating file device that stores contact cards. Originally invented by Danish engineer Hildaur Neilsen in the 1950s, the Rolodex was designed to help people organize business contacts in a visible, easily accessible way — no scrolling or swiping required. So practical, easy to find!
Each card holds a name, phone number, and sometimes extra notes, and users would flip through the cards to find who they needed. It was an office staple for decades, and the name “Rolodex” became synonymous with any kind of contact list — kind of like how we say "Kleenex" instead of facial tissue.
But while the Rolodex might sound a little outdated now, I see it as something full of possibility… and beauty. How couldn’t I? 😂
Enter: The Memorydex ✂️
I take this old-school tool and transform it into something deeply personal: a Memorydex.
Instead of business cards, each card in my handmade Memorydex is a decorated mini scrapbook page — ready to hold your photos, journaling, memories, collages, and love notes. Think of it as a rotating memory carousel made just for your story.
